Greetings
All!
First,
as usual, please take a look at the Supplemental Rules here.
We've updated them to Version 3 so make sure you refresh
your browser.
Ok, so, this is Daytona, it's always a big race so bring
your patience and be prepared to work with each other.
If you haven't raced with ChampCar in a while or if you just
want a refresher on how we manage our races, please take some time to watch
our New to ChampCar video here. The only thing
that I do not cover in that video is Flagtronics.
Flagtronics. Yes we will be running it. Yes we
will have units to loan out, and yes they are still free. Trust me, you're
going to want to run it here. Units will be available in both the Tech area
and Registration.
Gear Check. Yes we are still doing
gear checks. If you do not have a 2022 Gear Check sticker on your
helmet you will need to get your gear checked.
There's a video version of this pre-event info available here.
Garages. Remember that if you rent a
garage you also get the trailer space associated with that garage. The
trailer spaces are usually directly across from the garage, but some are
offset. Make sure you check the number and are in the right space.
Which
brings me to parking in the garage areas. When you go through Registration
we will give you a pass for one vehicle in the garage area. That is the
only vehicle your team can bring into the garage areas on Saturday. This is
a full race and we cannot have all the extra cars parked everywhere.
We'll
be a little flexible on Friday if you need to get in and drop equipment.
But you'll need to quickly move any extra cars back out to the parking
areas.
Which
bring me to Fire Lanes. Those yellow painted lines in the garage area and
the cold side of the pit lane are Fire Lanes. Please keep those areas clear.
If
you did not rent a garage you can use either the open trailer parking lot
to the east of the Owner camping area, or the trailer slots across from the
open Yellow garages. Keep in mind that if someone rents an open Yellow
garage you might have to move.
Golf Carts. So bottom line, only
vehicles with a valid License Plate can be operated. Why? Because a license
plate means you have insurance. Daytona requires a seriously large
liability insurance policy for golf carts, and you have to bring a copy,
and ChampCar has to maintain a copy, and we have to deliver a copy to the
track, and that's more admin than we have people to manage. So, licensed
vehicles only.
Operation Prom. Who doesn't enjoy a
Prom? For those of you who have been here in the past when we've had Proms, you might remember the drill. Yes, I swear I'm not kidding. There will be a
High School Prom in the 500 Club Saturday evening. It's been done before,
it won't be an issue, but you do need to know a few details. The biggest
being that the 500 Club building and the grounds around it are off-limits.
Also, the camping area known as the Owner-Driver lot will be totally
closed. That's the nice camping area right outside the Yellow garages. This
is where they will be bringing the kids in and transferring them into the
500 Club.
Camping. Remember that campers will use the
Lake Loyd area. We will have a staff member at the entrance to collect the
usage fee. We do not take any reservations, but we have also never used
more than half the available spaces. Also, please park in the spaces
correctly, like between the lines. When one rig pulls in all sideways and
blocks 4 spaces that doesn't help anyone.
Tech. Please remember to have your electronic
Tech Inspection form completed and submitted before the race. Daytona is a
big event and Tech inspection can take some time. Also, remember that we
are only checking safety compliance. It is up to you to properly add up and
submit your VPI and Total Points.
The
Tech lines at these big races can be long. You can help make it quicker and
more efficient for yourself by having your Tech form properly submitted and
your car ready to go before you get in line.
And!
Please note this part. We are going to change the direction of the Tech
line this year, and stage the line outside of the garage paddock. We need
to reduce the congestion in the Blue garages. Look for the signs and
directions from our staff, but the short version is the line will form from
the other side.
Registration. Please
take a few minutes to review your team's registration. Checking
things like membership status for each driver and your payment balance can
make the check-in process go much quicker.
DiscoveryParts. Our friends at
DiscoveryParts are bringing their mobile unit to Daytona. Here's some more
information from them;
DiscoveryParts, a ChampCar Endurance Series partner, will be
bringing their “Mobile Technology Center '' to the ChampCar 10th Annual
Daytona 14-Hour Enduro event on April 1-2. If there is anything special you
would like us to bring, please let us know before Monday March 28 noon EST
as the vehicle gets final loaded the previous night. We already have a very
full will-call box and thank you for the support of our company.
New on the racer support team vehicle are Sabelt harness, Sparco's Land+ Gloves, the
incredibly light and limited edition Eagle LT Suit, and
the Garmin Catalyst demo
unit for you to use on track. Stop by and let us know what session and day
you would like to use it, and we will have it ready.
Thanks once again and we look forward to seeing everyone at
Daytona International Speedway.
