 4/17/2021 Saturday: 8-Hour Event Directors: Chelsey Vickery / Dana Morrison Tech Chief: Ray Franck Car 108 Protest Details: The filed protest alleged the 108 car ran a coil on plug assemble from the 3.5L Nissan engine, not the 3.0L engine claimed in the vehicle’s swap form. Rule 4.3.2 specifies that “Ignition coil(s), aftermarket” are assessed a value of 10 points. Tech Inspector / Event Director Final Findings: ChampCar searched a variety of online auto part vendors by cross-referencing the part numbers on the coils and comparing them to coils recommended for 3.0L Nissan engine. ChampCar determined that replacement parts vendors list the same coils as direct stock replacements for the 2.5, 3.0, and 3.5L Nissan engine. ChampCar, per rule 5.5.2.2, determined the protest to be invalid.  4/12/2021 Daytona 14-Hour Event Director: Chelsey Vickery Chief Of Tech: Ray Franck Tech: Thomas O'Rourke Car: 150 Protest Details: On Saturday, April, 10th car 150 won the ChampCar 14hr race at Daytona International Speedway. The 150 car, a 1989 Mercedes-Benz 190E, won by a margin of 17 seconds. During the 30-minute impound process, tech officials found 2 non-shock suspension components, 2 Heim joints, and materials not claimed on the team’s tech sheet. The 150 car has nonstock adjustable toe links on the rear, left, and right. Also found, were unclaimed front strut bracing, along with Heim joints attached to the rear left and right control arms connecting them with the chassis. These three things added points to change their position. After a discussion with the team, points were added to car 150’s tech sheet. With the multiplier, the total VPI put him three laps down, resulting in a 5th position finish. Points added and recorded to the team as follows: 2 non-shock suspension co
